What is Universal Credit?

Universal Credit supports you if you are on a low income or out of work. Universal Credit claimants receive a monthly payment to help with your living costs.

Universal Credit was introduced to place legacy benefits including; Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), Housing Benefit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, Employment & Support Allowance and Income Support (ESA).

If you are currently claiming other benefits why not use an independent benefits calculator to see if you could be better off on Universal Credit? You can check with a local benefits advisor to find out what you could be entitled to with Advice Local.

Before you apply for Universal Credit, its important to get independent advice first. Find out more about Universal Credit and how to get free advice on this website.
